How to Make Sourdough

Ayla Gharavi, Editor

Many people love baking, however sourdough is a good replacement if you are trying to stay away from sugar! All you need is:

  1. ½ cup Sourdough Starter
  2. ½ cup Water
  3. 1 Tbsp Salt
  4. 3 ½ cup flour
  5. Oil
  6. Flour (for dusting)

First, get a big bowl and add  ½ cup Water, and 1 Tbsp Salt. Stir the salt and water until salt is fully incorporated. Next, add ½ cup Sourdough starter and mix that together with a spatula (Only a spatula)! Then, add 2 cups of flour and fold the flour into the Mixture. If the sourdough cannot form a ball easily add as much flour as it takes. Form a ball and leave it in the bowl. Finally, put a cloth and rubber band on top. Leave the bowl in a room temp spot for 12-15 hours.

After the 12-15 hours get out a cutting board and flour it and your hands. Next, take out your bread and fold it onto itself for 2-3 minutes. Then, oil your bowl . Roll the bread into a ball and place it in the bowl. Finally put it in a warm place like your oven with the light on for 45 minutes.

Once the 45 minutes is up take your dough out of the oven and start preheating the oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. While the oven is preheating, place your dutch oven into your oven. When the oven is preheated, place your dough into your dutch oven and put in the oven for 24 minutes with the lid on. After 24 minutes, remove the lid of the dutch oven, and bake for 5 minutes.

Once your bread is done baking, remove it from the dutch oven and place it on a cooling rack for one hour. Finally, you can eat and enjoy your delicious bread!
